Dear
yuletide writer,
I'm
buries and
finnicks.
This is my fourth Yuletide. I've included prompts to help you have an idea of what I like, but please take what you like from this and don't feel like you have to take my prompts at face value. As long as it doesn't hit a DNW, I will enjoy it!
I'm happy to answer any questions via the mods. I welcome treats! (I have likes/dislikes in my letter for these.)
Thank you for creating for me! ♥
Letter completed 24 October 2025, AEDT. If you find any contradiction with my DNWs between my sign-up and this letter (there should hopefully not be!), please go with the sign-up.
If you'd like to know the tropes and general things I like, you can see my general exchange letter. Please refer to my sign-up for my DNWs.

I absolutely adore this series. There's something to the writing, world building, and the characters that makes me never want to put these books down. I love how every character has an important part to play and how the group works together as a well-oiled machine. When I had first started reading this series, I had thought Jess would be front and centre and was gladly surprised to find that he wasn't.
I love how Khalila and her culture is represented and how Glain is celebrated for being so tough and masculine. I love Jess' dry humour and his cunning and how he's encouraged to feel his feelings when he's grown up in a household where he's been expected to be as impenetrable as stone. These characters are so dynamic and interesting.
What I love most about these characters is how they all respect one another in their own ways. Jess and Glain's banter is everything—he understands that her language isn't "Are you okay? Do you need anything?" but is "Get the fuck up and keep moving on". I love that Glain lets herself be a little vulnerable around Jess and I love that he notes that and doesn't rub it in her face that she is a bit of a softie. I'm a big sucker for characters who appear tough and posture as being impenetrable and unfeeling, but are big emotional feelers deep down.
I love Khalila and Jess' mutual respect for one another. I always felt like they had great chemistry, and I always wished for something to develop between them (even though I absolutely love Khalila/Dario and how she can step on him and he'd say thank you). He's the hands while she's the brains and I always feel like he really celebrates her intellect every chance he gets. There's a trust between them to get the job done; I feel they compliment one another so well.
WE NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT BRENDAN. I find his relationship with Jess to be fascinating and I was always greedy for more. How does he feel being scraps? What does he get up to when we're not following him?
I'm also happy for other characters to make an appearance. In particular: Anit (I love the idea of her with Jess in the future), Glain, Dario, Morgan, Thomas, Santi, Wolfe.
+ I am obsessed with this world and want to know more about how it came to be. What was it like when the first blank was made? How did ephemera start? Did any of the people at the top think "Man, maybe we should let people own books?"
+ Trying to deal with trauma.
+ Comforting Jess in the wake of Brendan's death.
+ Post-war, settling down—dealing with the trauma of having incited a rebellion, causing deaths, and seeing those they care about die. Or it can be something sweet and not quite as distressing.
+ Remembering the fallen.
+ Sorting books or reading a book aloud (perhaps a fairytale).
+ Jess needs to pretend to be Brendan after Brendan's death.
+ Missing moments.
+ Nightmares.
+ During a quiet moment, breaking down from the intensity of war.
+ Smut of any kind—hurt/comfort, wanting to forget, celebrating victories, being together, post-war bliss or dealing with trauma.
+ I didn't like Morgan's ending because it felt like a disservice to the character. If you have any ideas on how to fix that, hit me!
NIKOLAI SERIES (BOOKS)
CHARACTERS: Nikolai Lantsov, Zoya Nazyalensky (happy for you to also include Aleksander Morozova and Juris, who are also in the tagset)
Ships: Nikolai/Zoya
Canon DNW: Alina/Nikolai as an established couple.
Notes: My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice).
I adore this series. I love Nikolai and Zoya and how they're friends to lovers and colleagues to lovers as well. I love that they're all about duty and understand that they would throw down for Ravka and put themselves last if it meant that their country would have a chance of prospering. They're so compatible despite their differences, and I really love how they respect each other.
Nikolai appreciating Zoya's caustic nature and never pushing her to be someone she's not is wonderful. I love how he gives her space and understands how her showing vulnerability and softness—and sharing things with him—is difficult for her. In turn, I appreciate how she stands up for Nikolai and sees through his charming exterior. She's the one person who I feel doesn't expect Nikolai to be anyone but himself. The fact that she throws the portraiture of his father into the fire to secure his claim to the throne despite it possibly earning her his ire forever really goes to show how much she respects him.
+ I'd love to see something that fills in the blanks of King of Scars. How were the first few days of chaining him him to the bed? Why did he choose Zoya? Did he choose Zoya?
+ We didn't get enough of them pretending to have an affair. Whose idea was it? When did it start? How did they feel about it? What if it continued for a little longer?
+ How was the travel back to Ravka after they defeated Elizaveta? I feel that that was skimmed over and we could've gotten some delicious "there was only one bed… and we shove Yuri in a closet" on the way home.
+ So, dragon aftermath! Does Nikolai help Zoya learn how to transform and fly? How does being a dragon impact Zoya? What are the pros, what are the cons? Give me some Grishavese dragon lore!
+ What was the aftermath of Zoya becoming queen? Let's get into some of the politics and uprisings that were inevitable from her being crowned.
+ Give me more demon! How does it impact Nikolai? I feel like we didn't really get a lot about his experiences with it, despite it being the focus of KoS. Give me some monsters and body horror in regard to monster transformation!
+ With Zoya as queen, she needs a king. Does she entertain the idea of marrying someone who isn't Nikolai? What if one of the other kingdoms (/waves hands as to where this could be) send one of their princes over to woo her? (Yes, I love jealous Nikolai.)
+ I feel like we get the impression Zoya's mother is still alive. How does she react to the news her daughter is queen?
+ I really wish we had more with Magnus Opjer. I felt that we didn't even get him in the books. He was there one moment and gone the next. What if he stuck around? How does his relationship with Nikolai grow?
SHADES OF MAGIC (BOOKS)
CHARACTERS: Holland Vosijk
DNWs: Not interested in Holland/Kell
Notes: My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags (if 0: any from tag set).
I am currently reading A CONJURING OF LIGHT and will have finished by the time Yuletide opens. I just fucking love Holland. I miss him when he's not on the page. I find him utterly fascinating. This weird, sad, broken boy who tries so hard to live for his London and be better than what the Danes did to him and his London… and he still fails at being better.
I find the worlds fascinating and how magic seems like it eats the worlds and people that it consumes. I find the Antari an interesting concept, although I wish it played "The Chosen One" trope a lot differently than it does. Making the Antari super special and The Most Powerful is a little boring, and I'd love to see a different take on what it means to be Antari. Does the power grow consuming? Do they find it destroys them from the inside out?
I'd love to see more about him. What was his life like? How did he mentally survive the Danes? Give me anyone who is important to him. How does Holland open himself up to those around him? Does he open up to those around him? How does he feel about being different and Antari? Does he view it as something prestigious, or does he think it's damned him? How does he feel about the other Londons? How does he feel when he's king? How does he try to overcome Osaron?
While Lila is a character I wish had stayed human, I kind of like the idea of Holland interacting with her. What's he like when he's not interacting with Kell? DOES HOLLAND KNOW HOW TO CHILL?
ALIAS (TV)
CHARACTERS: Sydney Bristow, Julian Sark
Ships: Sydney/Sark
DNWs: It's not a DNW but everything after season 2 was insane. I found everything after season 3 felt like a different show.
Notes: My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags (if 0: any from tag set).
I love Sydney and Sark. He's the enemy who sees her for whose he is and crushes on her (and is charming as fuck!) and she's the hero who doesn't have time for the cute villain's bullshit. I like how he's always complimenting her and trying to persuade her to join the dark side, while Sydney's just like "Bro, I'm putting you on mute". I like that Sark has a relationship with Sydney's mother, and I'd love to see more of that and how Irina Derevko was an absent figure for Sydney but a present one for Sark.
I really enjoy the first two seasons because I felt it was a fun spy show with supernatural mythology. The time jump was a bit weird in season three, although I loved that they paired Sydney and Sark in a lot of episodes.
+ Going undercover. I just love undercover stuff. Give me more Rambaldi shit that brings them together!
+ If you want to deal with season three, Sydney's amnesia. Did Sark play a role during her missing time? Was he an ally to her, or was he secretly using her? How does he step in and help her come back to herself?
+ Sydney's in a pickle and Sark helps her out of it.
+ Their time at SD6 working together.
+ Five times they accidentally kept bumping into each other on missions and helping one another… and the one time when maybe it was deliberate.
NIKITA 2010 (TV)
CHARACTERS: Alexandra Udinov, Owen Elliott, Nikita Mears, Amanda Collins
Ships: Alex/Owen, Nikita/Michael, Nikita/Amanda, Owen/Nikita
DNWs: Go wild.
Notes: My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice).
I WISH THIS SHOW GOT MORE LOVE. It's such a great spy show, and I love, love, love that it has women at its centre playing such key roles.
I loved it every time Owen came on the screen because he gave Michael such shit. He was a breath of fresh air, and I found the role he played in Division very interesting. I liked him paired with both Nikita and Alex (although Alex more so) and liked it when he got to play the good guy and prove how useful and good he was.
Nikita, Nikita, NIKITA. I love the complex relationships she has with both Alex and Amanda. Her role with Alex is often motherly/big sisterly, and I like how she projected her guilt onto Alex and essentially used her as her redemption. I like their relationship, including the toxic elements and the healthier ones. They're a great example of two women allowed to be friends who get to build each other up but also tear each other down. I like that Nikita was both a villain and hero.
I really liked Amanda as a character the moment she broke free of Percy, although I liked her early in the show because she was so intimidating despite very much presenting as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Her need for control comes from a very traumatic background, and I love how she was always so poised despite every setback she faced. She was an interesting character who was complex and not at all one dimensional, and I'd love to see her explored even more.
I really love how Alex was Anastasia but for spies. She could be grating at times, but I felt like she really came into her own in the later seasons when she realised she had built her entire identity around Division and being better. I wish we had more episodes for her to explore what it was like to live in the grief of Sean (more grief for Alex!) and see her relationship with Owen build properly. I loved that she was reclaiming herself and owning her identity, and I liked that she was a character who was forced out of being a spy and into the public eye, as I felt that introduced some new roadblocks!
+ I'd love to see more undercover opportunities!
+ How does Alex navigate being Alexandra Udinov? Does she miss slipping under the radar, or does she enjoy the limelight?
+ I'd love to see Owen and Alex bond more about grief and butterflies, and see their attraction grow more than what we got to witness thanks to the short episode count. When does the attraction begin? Who falls first?
+ What does Owen and Alex's relationship look like post-show with him as her bodyguard? How does he feel being "Sam" again?
+ I'd love to see more with Owen when he was not on screen. Did he track down more agents? Did he try to live on as a regular Joe after Emily? Did he keep track of our heroes? Who is he when he's not a cleaner?
+ I just want to see more toxic interaction between Nikita and Amanda.
FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS (MOVIES)
CHARACTERS: Sue Storm
Ships: Sue/Reed, Sue/Victor von Doom.
DNWs: I'd like Sue to be more than A Mother.
Notes: My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags (if 0: any from tag set).
DID THEY FINALLY GET FANTASTIC FOUR RIGHT? I loved this adaptation. I loved that the characters were already heroes and already knew their powers. I LOVED THAT SUE WAS POWERFUL! Her powers are SO COOL. I loved that she is clearly the heart and soul of the Fantastic Four and that she plays such a pivotal role as a leader.
I'd love to see more about her struggle with her powers. Does she abuse them? Does she wish she had a different gift? How does she train? Does she train?
Who was she before we met her in the movie? Did she even like Reed when she first met him? Does she have a relationship with Victor von Doom? How does she feel about her brother having powers like her? Does she feel responsible for Ben's transformation?
How does she cope with her superhero fandom and all the merchandise about her? Does she miss her identity when she was just an astronaut? How does she balance being Sue Storm vs Invisible Girl?
I'd love to see something that doesn't narrow her down as "Franklin's mother". I'm happy for her to interact with any characters.
You're more than welcome to use comic book lore/storylines. Please let me know what comics you refer to because I am desperate for recs!
LITTLE WOMEN 2019 (MOVIES)
CHARACTERS: Amy March, Theodore "Laurie" Laurence.
Ships: Amy/Laurie.
DNWs: Laurie/Jo. I'm happy for it to cause a roadblock for Amy wherein she doesn't want to believe Laurie actually loves her. I'd like to opt out of Laurie/Jo as an established relationship.
Notes: My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags (if 0: any from tag set).
I fell head first for these two when Amy read Laurie's ass for filth in Europe. I really love how their relationship feels mature—Amy seems to ground Laurie in a way that brings him comfort and Laurie sees Amy for the woman she is and nothing less. I really enjoyed their chemistry in the movie—I liked how he looked at her, I loved their banter, and I enjoyed how Amy, despite her feelings, isn't gentle with Laurie. She tells it like it is, even if it's the truth that will hurt him. They capture one of my favourite dynamics—the boy who trips over himself and the woman who trips him.
I particularly really loved Amy. I loved how she was unapologetically herself, even if that meant that she seemed like a brat. I love that she grew up into a woman who understood her place in society and who craved more but allowed herself to want something that her family never let themselves have. I like that she understood Aunt March's perspective and adopted it as her own, and how she wanted more in life but was willing to try and get it in an acceptable roundabout way.
I personally feel like Laurie would allow her to have what she wants because he's had so much taken from him, too. He wouldn't stifle Amy's independence or be intimidated by it but would nurture it.
The one thing I wish we got was MORE! I wanted more of them! I wanted to see them together in Europe, with Laurie being jealous and Amy being exasperated. I wanted to see him court her and Amy actually let herself be courted. I wish we got to see more fallout from Amy saying she wouldn't play second to Jo. (I felt that was a loose end.)
+ Laurie's jealous of Fred. (Look, I deserved more of this.) I loved the way he would say his name and Amy would clock it.
+ Isn't Fred one of Laurie's good friends? What happens when, in Europe, Fred reconnects with Laurie and that makes things more difficult because of Laurie's changing relationship with Amy?
+ What happens when Laurie's always outside, waiting for Amy to come out of her art classes?
+ What if instead of getting married so quickly, Laurie courts Amy?
+ What if Amy was allowed to feel angry that she wasn't able to come and say goodbye to Beth? How does she lean on Laurie in her grief?
+ Five times Laurie was in love with Amy and the one time he acted on it.
+ Did Laurie write to Amy before he wound up in England?
+ WHAT HAPPENED IN EUROPE? I'm STARVED for content!
+ What's marriage like for them? Is Amy still uneasy about Jo and Laurie? How does Laurie try and settle her insecure feelings?
+ What if Amy went ahead and got engaged to Fred despite Laurie's declaration?
+ Amy draws Laurie throughout their stay in Europe.
+ Amy draws her family.
+ What if Laurie encourages Amy to work through her grief using her art?
+ What's Amy's relationships like with her sisters? Who is she closest to? Who sees her for who she is rather than what they need her to be? How do she and Jo get along? (One thing I'd love to see explored is why Amy felt the need to apologise to Jo when it was revealed Amy married Laurie. Does she still feel insecure? Does she feel like she took something from Jo? Is Laurie still considered "Jo's" in her mind? How does Laurie feel about all of this? I wish we got something a little more from Jo to ease Amy's insecurities.)
READY OR NOT (MOVIES)
CHARACTERS: Grace Le Domas, Daniel Le Domas.
Ships: Daniel/Grace.
DNWs: None! I know a common DNW is deathfic — considering Daniel's status, go nuts with it.
Notes: My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags (if 0: any from tag set).
This movie is so fucked up. I love the psychology behind it and how people will do anything and rationalise anything to ensure that they stay in some fucked up good graces.
I really like how Grace was a Final Girl like Sidney Prescott who was in over her head and easily adapted to the fucked up situation she found herself in. I love that she struggled, that she hated what she had to do, and that she was tenacious in surviving. I really liked how Daniel was so fucked up from his childhood and his shitty family that he wasn't like them at all, but was quietly rebelling while also doing his best to not spook Grace away while trying to spook her away.
I love that Daniel corrected what he felt he did wrong with his uncle by tattling. He's the black sheep of the family, and I'd love to see more of his guilt and how he feels going against the family and their beliefs. What happens when he dies?
I really love their chemistry and wish we got more of them in the movie. I like how he gave off a certain vibe that worked against his desire to see Grace out of the family. I love how Grace came to trust Daniel because he was the only one who was real with her from the very beginning (even pre-movie). I love the guy who's so tired and messed up but still does the right thing despite being forced to do the wrong thing and even play along—and I love the girl who comes out of this shitty thing a little charred, but no longer as naive as she was before.
+ MISSING SCENES! I honestly thought there'd be more Daniel and Grace and am always severely disappointed on my rewatches that more scenes haven't magically appeared. Was Daniel playing drunk? How did he try and help her? Did Grace hide in the same room Daniel was in and he didn't alert his family?
+ What if that gunshot wound wasn't fatal?
+ What if Mr Le Bail traded one of the Le Domases souls for Daniels?
+ I know this fandom has a lot of timeloops, so why don't we throw in one more? What if Mr Le Bail threw Daniel and Grace into one because he wanted to see Daniel fight for himself? What if he liked Daniel and wanted him to live but wanted him to fight for it?
+ Another time loop idea—what if Daniel's stuck in a time loop where he just dies over and over and over again? What if he's stuck in one where no matter what happens, Grace always dies?
+ What if Mr Le Bail was like a genie and could grant three wishes? Are his wishes literal? Do they come with a caveat? Does he twist them around?
+ Mr Le Bail likes Grace… so he decides to throw her into a timeloop or alternate universe to show that Daniel was the brother that was meant for her.
+ What if Daniel and Grace are soulmates and their mark or bond appears after his death? What if Mr Le Bail connects their souls together so Daniel can live?
+ What if Grace makes a deal with Mr Le Bail to bring back Daniel? He was the only one worth a damn.
+ So, Daniel's dead. Bugger. What if he haunts Grace? What if that's Mr Le Bail's little gift for him?
+ What if Grace reluctantly uses the Le Domas fortune—but it's cursed. What if Daniel comes back to save her? (Or help her save herself!)
+ Grace gets thrown into an alternate universe where she's married and happy with Daniel and the family is not warped at all. (Perhaps it's like she's stuck in a simulation that's of Mr Le Bail's doing?)
