snowflake_challenge #5: In your own space, talk about an idea you wish you had the time / talent / energy to do.

• I wish I could draw. People who make fanart are amazing, and I wish that I had the natural born talent to create visually like that. I love watching artists who do timelapses of their sketching to digital to colouring steps. It's why I do my best to point out details and emotions etc. in the fanart that I click on these days. I know a lot of work goes into them, just like fic, and I really want to let artists know that I can see some of the detail they may have purposefully put in their work. (I figure since I love it when people pull out lines in my fic that they love, it's nice to pay it forward for fanartists, too.)

• I wish I could make fanvideos. Some people are such good vidders. I never used to like watching fanvideos but then I found some that were right up my alley and I can't stop. I can't storyboard a video in my head and I don't have the patience to go through hours of footage to find the right moments to capture.

• I wish I had the patience to gif. I did try to gif a few times, but I was really impatient and found it really difficult. (I think I could honestly do it if I had the patience for it. Never say never.) My hat's off to gifmakers who make intricate gifs on Tumblr.

• I've always, always wanted to write a novel. I have written some 75% of the way through with previous NaNos, but I've lost the drive over the last few years to deep dive into original work. I get really overwhelmed by ideas and lose interest. I would love to write an original novel one day from start to end and have a complete story.

• I wish I didn't stop learning how to play the piano. I just didn't like the exams (and I didn't like my teacher very much, come to think of it). But I was a young kid and I didn't want to stick with it, so, hopefully it finds its way back to me in the future.

• I wish I could knit. My maternal grandmother was really good at knitting—she taught herself how to read patterns and would make me jumpers and made me a scarf—but every time I tried to knit a scarf, it always ended up seemingly like the Leaning Tower of Pisa lol.

• I've always wanted to run a DWRP game, and I tried to do a private one, but I don't really have the time or energy for it. I also find it difficult to plot and plan things as well as participate in it. It takes a lot of work to create a creative space like that. I tried, it didn't gel, and I'll always long for it, but it's not necessarily a big deal to me anymore.

I guess, in tandem with that, I'd love to try D&D one day. I love roleplay and this is one aspect of it that I've never gotten to engage in.

• I wish I liked travelling, but I am a homebody through and through and love being able to say goodnight to my cats lol.

• Dance lol. I wish I could dance, but my guilty feet have got no rhythm. Sad.

• Do makeup. I'm not a big makeup person and I don't enjoy it, but I wish I had the skill to do some fun looks with eyeshadows.

• I wish I could garden, but 1) I don't like being outside with the bugs and 2) I have a black thumb. I tried to grow things but I kept getting these specific bugs eating my strawberries before they even get to grow! I think if I give it another go, I'll be asking one of my family friends (who has had success at growing vegetables) what her tips are. I'm determined!

• Be able to duplicate myself and write several projects all at once. (I'm starting to get a sore wrist from typing so much during the day thanks to doing work and my creative writing, so I should probably tack onto that my wish for wrists that were invulnerable.)

There are some things I was doing before the pandemic hit, so I can only hope I'm able to get back into those soon. That included riding my bike, going for walks—my friend and I did the 7 Bridges Walk, which is a 30km walk around Sydney, and go back to pottery. I've also started writing the fics I want to write, and figured out a way to break my time up to touch multiple projects.

There are some things on this list that I know I could achieve with discipline and some that I simply can't because it's just not in the cards for me. A girl can dream!

I find it interesting—and probably exposing a naive part of my understanding of art—that artists have their own skillset in the whole art atmosphere. I foolishly thought if you're capable of drawing, you can paint, you can clay, etc. I watch some fanartists draw characters from circles and I'm like how did you bring that nose to life? I saw you, but how???

Same! Maybe I'll put on some mascara, but I personally don't get the whole face thing. (Contouring makes no sense to me.) It'd be nice to know how to do it… I've even tried to do my makeup by following a video, but I can tell you I got frustrated by the process and the end result lol.

LMAO. I want to garden, but I don't want to be outside, I want the bugs away from me, and I want shit to grow ASAP! I'm glad there's someone else out there who wants to do it but, you know, doesn't like where it has to happen.

I also didn't know there were different kinds of dirt. 😐 There was no hope for me. None.
