276. COMMENT_BINGO RECS.
I've completed my
comment_bingo just in time for the deadline! While I was hoping for a full blackout, I'm still really happy that I got reading and eye-feasting (in the case of art).
There are a lot of works that I've left comments on since the start of this challenge that I didn't include for my card. The way I approached this was reading the work(s) first and then seeing if they had a spot on the card. (The only time I viewed the card first before finding a work was for the ones with specific timestamps, which was a lot of fun!) I'm hoping to continue filling it, especially with the works that have timestamps on them.
This challenge was really great in encouraging me to leave a comment, even if the work was old or had a lot of comments already. I try to leave comments on the works I enjoy, but this gave me more incentive to ensure I did because I wanted to include it in my rec list by the end of the challenge!
I completed a diagonal line. The card is under the cut. The recs are beneath the card and outside of the cut.
Here are the works that I commented on for this challenge. I've included a little reason of why I enjoyed it in the hopes of encouraging others who like those ships to leave a comment, too.

[ FIC ] burn bright (burnout) bynoun
Prompt: 3 different works from the same challenge [fairytaleinspired ]
Fandom: avatar: the last airbender.
Characters/Pairing(s): zuko/mai.
Word Count: 1.3k
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: For the three years that it takes between Mai’s mark to appear and his, everyone has to live a polite lie.
Zuko’s name is written out in bold strokes along her forearm, plain as ink on virgin parchment. The morning it appears, around Mai’s sixth birthday, her father drops his bowl at breakfast and her mother (pregnant, again, with the son that will live three months) prays aloud at the table.
Then she is taken to her room and redressed in something with long sleeves.
I love Mai/Zuko for so many reasons and this captures Mai's love and understanding and knack for seeing Zuko as a human being.
[ FIC ] Offer Me Your Hunger bycalenlily
Prompt: 3 different works from the same challenge [fairytaleinspired ]
Fandom: fairy tales: little red riding hood.
Characters/Pairing(s): little red riding hood/the wolf.
Word Count: 805.
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: Ruby puts on tight jeans and tank top, leather boots and leather jacket, and does her makeup like she’s going to a club before heading down the forest path.
I really enjoyed the characterisation of the wolf and Ruby and the exploration of their toxic relationship. The wolf offers her freedom, and it's up to Ruby as to whether or not she takes it. It's short but packs a punch.
[ FIC ] Once Upon A Dream byUltra
Prompt: 3 different works from the same challenge [fairytaleinspired ]
Fandom: mcu.
Characters/Pairing(s): bucky/natasha.
Word Count: 4.1k
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: When Nat finds herself returned to life after Vormir, the battle with Thanos is over, but there's always another fight to face. Bucky's mind has, once again, become unstable, and to save him, Nat will have to go somewhere she never would've dreamed was possible…
I will always love fairytale retellings that have the women as the knights in shining armour and the men as the damsels in distress. Toss in WinterWidow, exploring Bucky's brainwashing and him using fairytales and romantic cliches and narrative tropes to try and cope with losing himself over and over and you've got yourself a real treat. This humanised Bucky in a way that reminded me of his character's potential in Captain America: The First Avenger.
[ FIC ] sing the body electric bymagpiemountains
Prompt: a canon compliant work.
Fandom: enola holmes.
Characters/Pairing(s): tewkesbury/enola.
Word Count: 8.1k
Rating: mature.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: The problem with having an eidetic memory, Enola discovers, is that she can recall with perfect clarity the sounds Tewkesbury made in that thin, hazy half-dark.
This is just... perfect. Perfect voices, perfect situation, perfect chemistry. I love an Enola who is clueless and then bowled over by her realisations, especially when it comes to Tewkesbury. This captures everything I love about this relationship. I hopemagpiemountains delves into this ship again because this is one of the best fics in the fandom imo!
[ FIC ] A Fresh Start bybadassbutterfly1987
Prompt: a work set in an AU.
Fandom: YOU.
Characters/Pairing(s): love quinn.
Word Count: 164.
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: She loves Joe, she really does.
But that doesn't mean he's good for her.
A really fun look into an au where Love wins and Joe loses. It really captures her psyche and Love's obsessive way of loving.
[ ART ] We must unlearn the constellations to see the stars by anonymous
Prompt: a work from a challenge from 2015 [rarepairfest ]
Fandom: justice league cartoon.
Characters/Pairing(s): shayera hol/john stewart
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: Post-battle rest.
The artwork is a feast for the eyes. I'm not even familiar with the canon, but it looks like it came straight off the tv.
[ FIC ] tale as old as time bysvgurl410
Prompt: a work from another challenge [fairytaleinspired ]
Fandom: mcu (thor).
Characters/Pairing(s): thor/sif.
Word Count: 7k
Rating: gen
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: Beauty and the Beast AU; When her dearest friend is taken captive by the Beast of Asgard, only known by name and feared by those around, Sif ventures to the castle and ends up volunteering to take his place. Initially resigned to her fate, she finds out more about the Beast and sees that there is indeed more to this provincial life.
The character voices are spot on and so true to who they are in canon. It's a really enjoyable story that has a fun rhythm to it and a great Sif voice.
[ FIC ] Pack Spring Break byImpala_Chick
Prompt: a work by someone who's given you a kudos or a comment.
Fandom: teen wolf.
Characters/Pairing(s): allison/isaac.
Word Count: 867.
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: The McCall pack goes on spring break together, and Lydia very purposefully assigns Allison and Isaac a room with only one bed.
Isaac/Allison was one of my favourite ships on Teen Wolf, and while I may not have stuck with the show, I absolutely adored them nonetheless.impala_chick captured their mature dynamic so well. I love Allison's compassion towards Isaac's previous trauma and how well these two jive together. It fondly took me down memory lane (and I may have gotten on YouTube to remind myself of why I love these two so much!).
[ FIC ] so what are you reading? bygirlsarewolves
Prompt: a work from 2016.
Fandom: batman returns.
Characters/Pairing(s): bruce/selina.
Word Count: 1k.
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: Two damaged people with double lives have a (relatively) normal phone call.
I absolutely adored the way that Bruce is written. He gives Selina space and seems so satisfied with a morsel of her attention despite wanting so much more from her. The idea of these two starting a book club just for a reason to keep in touch is the best thing to walk away with.
[ FIC ] In Their Own Time bylionessvalenti
Prompt: free space.
Fandom: ready or not.
Characters/Pairing(s): daniel/grace.
Word Count: 2.1k
Rating: teen.
Warnings: see ao3 tags.
Summary: When Grace makes a deal with Mr. Le Bail to resurrect Daniel, it comes with a some stipulation.
This offers a satisfying ending to Daniel and Grace's stories, especially Daniel's. It ties Le Bail in with another deal, but in doing so, the author allows Grace to do so on her own terms. I really loved that this fic explored consent, especially for Daniel, and ends on a hopeful note that implies the tides are turning for them both.
